The Pokemon universe is a vast and vibrant landscape filled to the brim with a variety of big, small, powerful, and petite monsters that you can train as your own.

Your overall goal is to be the very best there ever was and take on the Pokemon League. However, one would argue that it’s all about the friends and Pokemon you meet along the way. Although, as Pokemon has been around for over twenty-five years now, it’s pretty difficult to remember all the Pokemon on the roster, let alone know them well.

So with this in mind, we have come up with a series of Pokemon essential handbooks. These handbooks aim to document every key bit of info for every single Pokemon out there. Allowing you to get the most out of your Pokemon and train them to be the best that they can possibly be.

In this guide, we take a look at Whismur, a generation III Pokemon known for making a lot of noise despite its tiny frame. So without further delay, here is our Whismur essential handbook.

What Is Whismur?

Whismur

Whismur is a pure normal type Pokemon that was introduced in Generation III. This Pokemon made its debut in Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire and played a small role in the main storyline with the whismur in the tunnel between route 116 and Verdanturf Town being blocked due to a cave-in caused by the Uproar of the Whismur inside.

In terms of appearance, this Pokemon is a small but rotund Pokemon with a pink/purple body and yellow markings on the tips of both the ears and the feet. Whismur’s facial structure is rather curious as it has a perplexed mouth shape as if the Pokemon is in a constant state of duress. Plus, the Pokemon’s eyes are shaped like little crosshairs which is something, unlike any other Pokemon.

While this Pokemon is best known for a battle cry when it senses danger that could shatter eardrums with ease. It is actually a rather timid creature that aside from when it is in danger, is ironically very quiet. Usually, when the Pokemon finishes crying and feel that it is no longer in danger it will sleep due to exhaustion.

This Pokemon is number 293 in the Pokedex, is about 0.6 meters tall, is deceptively heavy, weighing about 16.3 kilograms. It has a catch rate of about 35.2% and has a slow/medium growth rate.

Does Whismur Appear in the Pokemon Anime?

Yes, Whismur has been around for more Pokemon generations than it hasn’t and as a result, this Pokemon has managed to its share of time in the spotlight. This Pokemon debuted in the episode A Poké-BLOCK Party! In this episode, we meet Alanna’s Whismur and in this episode, it battles against Jigglypuff. While all the other Pokemon succumb to Jigglypuff’s signature more, sing. Whismur’s ability allows it to stay awake and battle on.

Whismur also appeared in the episode, Gotta Dance!! In this episode, Meowth of Team Rocket captured these Pokemon in an attempt to please and entertain the Rocket leader, Giovanni. Meowth was going to make this Pokemon dance and perform for their leader, however, Ash and the gang rescued and freed the Whismur.

The Pokemon also made a major appearance in an episode called Pinch Healing! In this episode, Matt is baby-sitting a timid Whismur and his efforts are spent throughout the episode comforting the Pokemon by playing with them. These are the most prominent roles that Whismur has played within the anime. However, it did make some other more minor appearances. Here is a list of these below:

  • Leading a Stray!
  • Exploud and Clear!
  • The Ribbon Cup Caper
  • Deceit and Assist
  • To Thine Own Pokémon Be True!
  • An Old Family Blend!
  • Awakening the Sleeping Giant
  • Goodbye, Friend!

Does Whismur Appear in the Pokemon Movie?

Whismur Pokemon

While this Pokemon has made a very respectable number of appearances in the anime series. Whismur has sadly not featured in very many Pokemon movies. In fact, the only Pokemon movie that this Pokemon has made a brief appearance in was Destiny Deoxys, a movie based on the third-generation legendary Pokemon.

As it has been quite a while since this Pokemon has been relevant and since it has had a lot of exposure in the anime series, we wouldn’t expect many more movie opportunities for this Pokemon. However, never say never.

How Good is the Whismur Pokemon Trading Card?

Whismur has been subject to several TCG cards, undoubtedly due to the competitive viability of its full evolution, Exploud. This Pokemon debuted in the TCG as part of the Nintendo Black Star Promos series and since then, has been the subject of a couple of useful cards to add to your collection. Here we will take a look at the original and then our pick of the bunch.

The original TCG card is a pretty underwhelming one in truth and as a means of getting Loudred onto the field and little else. The Pokemon has two attacks. One is supersonic which has the chance to confuse the opponent and the other is pound which does a total of ten damage. While it is good that this Pokemon has the ability to stall, it’s rather lackluster when compared to some of the other Whismur related TCG cards out there.

Speaking of which, our pick of the bunch is the Celestial Storm Whismur card. In truth, none of the Whismur cards is practical in a battling context but the Celestial Storm Whismur has a move called Wail. This not only hits with forty damage which is double most of the other cards. It also allows you to take one of your opponent’s active Pokemon and replace them with a benched Pokemon. This can be a useful tactic and a great defensive/counterattacking strategy.

Whis

Plus, when you do find one, the capture rate is rather high at 35.2%. So in this sense, Whismur is a rather common Pokemon in a lot of games within the series. However, due to the fact that this Pokemon is required via trading in quite a few iterations of the game, an argument could be made that it isn’t as simple as you might think. Weighing up all this info, we would categorize Whismur as a slightly uncommon Pokemon.

Does Whismur Evolve?

Yes, Whismur is the branch of a three-stage evolutionary tree. This Pokemon may start off as a rather small and intimidating figure but soon evolves into one of the most fearsome Pokemon of the third generation. • HP: 64
  • Attack: 51

What Does a Shiny Whismur Look Like?

A shiny whisper is definitely one that you should actively pursue if you are a fan of Pokemon sprites that really contrast when compared with their original form. The shiny version of this Pokemon has the same pink/purple body coloring.

However, instead of the pale yellow ears and feet, the shiny version of this Pokemon has a neon green coloring which is very striking indeed. A lot of shiny Pokemon can be a letdown in terms of visual offerings but it is safe to say that Whismur isn’t one of them, so we urge you to get shiny hunting.

FAQs

Answer: While every Pokemon trainer will probably have a preference regarding which type they like to use. This doesn’t always make the starter choice for each generation straightforward. One has to consider the order in which the player will have to fight the Gym leaders of the region. Plus, some starter Pokemon are simply more competitively viable than others, we are looking at you Greninja. So with that in mind, here is a ranking of the most popular generation III starters:
1 – Mudkip
2 – Torchic
3 – Treeko
This is a surprising one, considering that even in today’s meta, Blaziken is one of the best non-legendary fighters around. However, of the three listed it was Mudkip that won the day. This may be down to the fact that the first gym leader is Roxanne the rock type leader. Or it might be down to the meme culture that engulfed Mudkip. Whatever the case, the fact is that Mudkip is the most popular starter of the third-gen.

Question: Which Normal Type Pokemon is the Strongest?

Answer: Several Pokemon trainers will write off normal type Pokemon due to their lack of specialty. However, the fact is that some of these Pokemon are brilliant competitive options. A lot of these Pokemon are hard hitters, able to tank huge hits and in some cases, can learn moves to become healing Pokemon which are almost impossible to take down. Here is a list of the top five best normal type Pokemon:
Arceus
Regigigas
Slaking
Meloetta
Blissey
While there are several options, the clear winner is the God of all Pokemon, Arceus. Now in fairness, this Pokemon’s type can be changed withheld items but regardless of this technicality, we would say that this Pokemon is far and away from the best competitive normal type.

Question: What Other Pokemon Are Based on Rabbits?

Answer: As you might know, many Pokemon are based on real-world animals. Pikachu is based on a mouse for example or Squirtle who is based on a turtle. Well, seeing as Whismur is based on a rabbit, we thought it would be interesting to list all the other Pokemon based on rabbits. Here they are below:

Buneary

Cinderace
